HCMC named among world's best places for digital nomads

Ho Chi Minh City is one of the world's top 10 destinations for remote workers thanks to its affordable cost of living, according to community site Digital Nomads.

In Vietnam's southern metropolis, the average monthly cost of living as $950 and the average internet speed as 20 Mbps, the site says.

Digital Nomads described HCMC as "a fast-paced city with a bustling nightlife and delicious local cuisine."

"Ho Chi Minh City is clearly the place to be right now," one remote worker wrote on Nomad List. "You can feel a great vibe, there is just the right balance between chaos and comfort."

However, Vietnam has not yet launched a visa specifically for digital nomads.

Vietnam is now offering a visa exemption for nationals of 24 countries for stays of 15-30 days, except for Chileans, who are allowed 90 days, and a one-month single-entry e-visa for visitors from 80 other countries.

In Southeast Asia, only Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia offer special visa programs for foreigners to work remotely with certain requirements.

Other Southeast Asian cities on Digital Nomad’s top-10 list were Chiang Mai in Thailand, as well as Canggu and Ubud in Indonesia.

Other cities included Lisbon in Portugal, Melbourne in Australia, Berlin in Germany and Barcelona in Spain.
